Nigeria is currently deregulating the Oil and Gas Sector and has recently published the Downstream Petroleum Sector policy and the new Gas policy to address mismanagement and abuse in this sector over the years. The sector is now more transparent and provides an open playing field for prospective investors with the deregulation of the sector and in the ongoing privatisation of the refineries and other oil and gas infrastructure.
The firm has acquired extensive experience in the oil & gas sector in Nigeria and are thus able to counsel clients and investors in the upstream and downstream sectors on the procurement of all approvals necessary for operation in the industry; applications for oil exploration/prospecting licenses/acreage allocation business and company transfers, oil and gas projects and financing environmental and tax issues and dispute resolution. We have acquired experience in Acquisitions, disposals and financings in the Oil & Gas sector relating to pipelines, gas processing plants and refinery assets.
The firm has advised clients with regards to the Petroleum Profits Tax (PPT) and the Companies Income Tax Act (CITA) as it regulates gas development projects etc
We have been involved in the negotiation and preparation of every type of oil and gas contract, like the Production Sharing Contracts (PSC) and Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs), application for location at the Oil and Gas Export Free Zone, negotiation and preparation of oil and gas projects' finance agreements and Environmental law compliance. In the Regulatory area, we have a close working relationship with the Petroleum products Pricing and Regulatory Authority. We have acted as solicitors to Chevron-Texaco, Mobil Oil and Mobil Producing.
